Tour Through BlogLand

This has been an exciting and fun year for me and the nomination by Denise Cooper with….Be My Guest With Denise to participate in the “A Tour Through Blogland” is just icing on the cake.  For those bloggers out there who spend countless number of hours creating and writing content for your blog, you know that it is an honor to have your blog recognized by others especially those bloggers who are great at what they do….and Denise is one of the bloggers that do great work and create great content.

All I would have to do would be just to post pictures of some Denise’s work and you would see the reason why I am honored to have been nominated by her.  But I want to tell you a little bit more about the great person of who she is.  I know Denise by way of her popular YouTube Channel….Be My Guest With Denise.  She is a talented decorator…

a fabulous event planner…

and a coupon connoisseur.  She is not just stockpiling all these products for use at her home, she actually donates them to local charities and non-profits organizations…..Go Denise!

I thought that I was superwoman until I met her…well virtually met her.  She does all these amazing things while holding down a 40+ hour job plus being active in her community….whew, I am tired just thinking about all that she does!….LOL!  So don’t forget to check out her blog and YouTube channel for great decorating ideas, awesome DIY projects and fabulous event planning tips and inspiration!

 

Allow me to introduce myself!

I am an interior designer who loves to create fabulous spaces for my home and for my clients.  I discovered my love for design at an early age and by trial and error.  You are probably wondering…..”trial and error”?  Well, allow me to briefly explain. At the ripe age of 10, I painted my grandmother’s guest bathroom walls a dark navy blue color….and the ceiling too.  It wasn’t the dark navy blue color that was a cause for concern, but the fact that I used “outdoor paint” to tackle this design project….LOL!  Needless to say, that is when I discovered my love for design and my family’s need to hide all the cans of paint.  Now fast forward 34 years later, I am still painting walls navy blue but with design knowledge and skills under my belt…LOL!  So let’s begin this tour….

Since we are now in the Fall season as I begin this tour, I found it fitting to share with you my home as I transition it from summer to fall decorating.  The first space in my home is my family room.  I decided to decorate this Fall season using color in lieu of the traditional fall décor.  The color I decided to use in my decorative accents is a deep gold.  I used this color in my pillows, decorative accents and lampshades.

I added a touch of gold by incorporating three gold vases ontop of the mantle.

Decorative throws are a great way to introduce a different pattern and color into a space.  This plush throw by Tahari had all the colors I am working with in this space…browns, golds, and creams with a touch of soft gray.

And I even used the gold and brown colors in my bedroom to bring in the Fall feeling to the space.

Now outside of design and decorating, I also love to organize and this year was a big year for me to tackle and complete several organizational projects in my home.  My laundry room space and my pantry were two of my biggest organizational projects.

Now when I am not designing, decorating or organizing, I am very active in my local city government and community.  And sharing God’s Word is one thing that I actively do on a daily basis.    I share God’s Word through social media…YouTube channel Face To Face TV3 and on my Face To Face TV3 Facebook page!…So don’t forget to check out those channels as well!

1.  What am I currently working on?

My formal living and dining room spaces are currently under design construction.  I have been in the process of redecorating these spaces for the past 3 months.   I have a few more furniture pieces to purchase, new window draperies and flooring.  It is a work in progress but I am hoping to get these two areas completed before Thanksgiving….let’s keep our fingers crossed!….LOL!

 

2.  How does my work differ from others in its genre?

My work differ from others in that I can transform a room on the smallest of budgets and make it look as if we spent millions of dollars.  My creativity allows me to see a treasure in the things that people see as trash.  And my design skills allow me to create unique and one-of-a-kind items for my clients.   It is amazing what I can create with a can of spray paint….LOL!

3.  Why do I write/create what I do?

Hiring an interior designer is a luxury and it is a luxury that many households can not fit into their budget.  That is why I created my YouTube Channel…Haute On Design to be able to show others how to become the interior decorator for their home and then be able to create the home of their dreams. I love to share the designer tricks of the trade to give the design enthusiast the encouragement to decorate their own home on a budget.

4.  How does your writing/creating process work?

My design process begins with a decorating dilemma or a challenge.  Normally that is what prompts a design project…a space is no longer working for the client or it is no longer aesthetically pleasing.  It is these challenges or dilemmas that I use to share with others to help guide them through a design dilemma or challenge that they might be facing in their home.
